What is a foundry date tag?
A foundry date tag — also called a date code tag — is a small injection molded marker fitted to a pattern or core box so that every casting it produces carries a readable code. The tag leaves its impression in the sand, so the identification is formed into the casting itself and stays with the part for the life of it.
What codes can a date tag carry?
Month, year, shift, cavity and heat code — in whatever combination your traceability system reads them. Tags are made to order in any shape, size, font and code, so the tag is cut to your pattern rather than the other way round.
How do the tags mount to a pattern?
Screw-in or snap-in. The mounting is engineered into the tag — a hole pattern, a boss, or a snap feature designed around how your pattern is actually set.
Why injection molded rather than machined?
Injection molding gives a crisp, repeatable impression shot after shot, and it produces large volumes at low cost. That combination is what makes a tag legible at inspection and economical to keep in stock.

Yes. Rapid prototyping lets you check the impression, the fit and the legibility on a real tag before any tooling is committed.
Can tags arrive presorted?
